This is a small uranium prospect near Mount Painter. Approximately one hundred exploration holes were drilled into this prospect between 1969 and 1971 by the Oilmin Group (who also discovered the nearby Beverley deposit to the east around the same time). This is one of the small deposits that collectively are often referred to as the Mt Painter deposit.It is perhaps poignant to quote an old SA Government Inquiry from 1972 (1) :
"if the exploration had been conducted under the provisions of the latest legislation, much less despoilation of the landscape might have occurred".One look at the photo below, and it is all too easy to agree. This is not the degree of respect that the Adnyamathanha, traditional owners of the region, deserve.
