By the late '70s, North Kalgurli, a relatively small ore-treatment company, had become a major partner with one of the world's giant uranium corporations, United Nuclear, in uranium exploration in Australia - particularly in developing the Honeymoon uranium mine in South Australia (1).

The company also had a 50/50 JV agreement (gold prospecting) with Newmont (2).

During 1982 and 1983, however, Metals Exploration effectively took over North Kalgurli and restricted (strangled?) its growth (3). Bond acquired Winthrop Investments in early summer 1984, and thus control of North Kalgurli (4).

Five years later, it was taken over by Gold Mines of Kalgoorlie (5).
