The Gulliver Jimberlana Minerals NL Dossier

332 Jimberlana Minerals NL

The company is involved in two uranium prospects in the Northern Territory, near Darwin and adjacent to the infamous Rum Jungle uranium province. Its partners are Pan D'or (in both cases) and Aquitaine at Mount Bundey (1). Though the Mount Bundey prospect is located near the old Rum Jungle uranium zone, by early 1981 little economic uranium mineralisation had been discovered (2).

It also has interests in an exploration prospect in Irian Jaya (West Irian) (2); and was involved in a gold mining project in South Africa, suspended however in 1982 (3), revived again in 1983 (4).

During the latter half of the 'eighties, Jimberlana made a major arrangement with Pamour Inc of Canada, by which it acquired control of the gold mining company (formerly in Noranda's hands) and, together with Pamour, nearly 20% of Yellowknife Gold Mines Ltd (5). The tie-up with Pamour brought Jimberlana into the second most extensive gold tailings treatment scheme in the world (ERG) in Canada, and other gold projects in North America. Jimberlana also secured 20 million shares in West Witwatersrand Gold Holdings of South Africa (22%), 9.7% in Dickenson Mines Ltd, and 8.2% in another Canadian gold producer, Kam-Kotia mines Ltd (6). Through its subsidiary PT Sungai Kencana, extensive exploitation has been taking place on the Mandor Contract of Work (COW) in indigenous Kalimantan (Indonesia), where Duval Alluvial has control (50.01%) of gold dredging and hard rock projects (5).

However, in late 1989, Jimberlana suspended all operations in its shares, as the company tried to secure a Canadian buyer- the Frame Mining Corp. The deal fell through and, at the time of writing, the future of Jimberlana itself is in doubt (6).
