Paladin Resources Ltd

Paladin Resources Ltd (PRL) are a relatively new uranium and gold exploration and mining company, with a special focus on uranium, although their management folks are of vintage age in the uranium exploration game. It was formed in 1994 in Perth, WA, by John Borshoff (former Managing Director of Uranerz Australia), and has since expanded to Malawi in southern Africa.

Paladin have several uranium exploration Joint Ventures across Australia including QLD, SA, NT and WA, mostly with Black Range Minerals. In February 1998, it farmed-in to the Kayelekera Uranium Deposit in Malawi at an 80% interest, with fellow Perth junior, Balmain Resources Pty Ltd, holding the remaining 20% interest. In June 1998, Paladin announced with great fanfare their purchase of the Manyingee and Oobagooma uranium ISL deposits from Cogema Australia. Together with their numerous exploration projects and partners, Paladin is now firmly established as a potentially new uranium company in Australia, as well beginning to market itself to investors in the USA.

During June 2000, with Black Range minimising their uranium exploration work across Australia (though keeping the Angela deposit near Alice Springs), Paladin purchased the remaining 50% of the Brightstar JV, giving Paladin 100% of all Lake Frome projects and the majority in most others.

They are progressing the Manyingee ISL project, albeit slowly and quietly, and have even successfully negotiated a lower purchase price from Cogema (given they bought it from Cogema, no surprises here really). Paladin are "true believers" in the nuclear industry, and are positioning themselves accordingly - although lately they appear to be showing more interest in making fast bucks from the hype in internet and telecommunications than championing the nuclear industry.
