Equinox Resources NL

Equinox Resources NL is a medium sized mining and exploration company, with interests across Australia, Sweden and Zambia (Africa). It recently began exploring near the Crocker's Well basement uranium occurrence in South Australia, and has formed a JV with BHP Minerals to further the exploration effort. Known as the Ethiudna Prospect, they hope to find a copper-uranium-gold ore body similar to the Olympic Dam deposit, due to many geologic similarities. Although every exploration company in SA says their next deposit will be a Roxby miracle!!!!

In 1999 and 2000, Equinox and BHP have quietly continued their exploration program. Recently, in August 1999, Equinox acquired a 50% interest in the Lumwana Copper deposit in Zambia, Africa. The Lumwana project is a joint venture with Phelps Dodge. A large'ish but low-grade copper deposit (a smaller and lower grade version of Roxby), it was said to have "significant cobalt, gold and uranium".

Equinox, however, have only recently (Dec. 2000) finally released information on the extent of other metals associated with the deposit. Apparently, the original exploration concentrated on copper and so only a small fraction of drill holes have been assayed for uranium. The current resource is 7.2 Mt of ore at 0.14% U3O8 (containing ~10,080 t U3O8), although about 1.9 Mt of the ore is at 0.2% also (containing ~3,800 t U3O8). For three years production, this gives about 3,600 t U3O8.

Thus Lumwana will be marginal, and Equinox should not be developing a mine there!!
